Throughout our experience during the past five years it is obvious that "one size does not fit all", however whilst tailoring our approach to each individual, GP Practice, Consortia or PCT we have also found that following a structure does allow the process to be managed more smoothly. The six steps we broadly follow are detailed when first working with a client.
1) Scoping exercise to understand where the client is in the process and what they want to achieve
2) Information gathering, including, if necessary information requests to the PCT
3) Form follows function - understanding what they want to do by following 5 steps
4) Structuring the organisation - allocating roles and responsibilities with accountability and governance that binds them together.
5) Draw up a short/ medium and long term plan. This will include driving cultural change as well as commissioning at Micro and Macro levels
6) Implementation - review process - actions to be taken.
